LOCAL BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT

ivy house

One of my favorite local spots to shop and gather inspiration is Ivy House in West Columbia. This unique antique market is filled with beautifully curated booths from local vendors featuring everything from vintage finds and furniture to artwork, candles, clothing, and handmade pieces.

What makes Ivy House so special is that every booth represents a small business or local creative, so every purchase helps support someone in our community. I’ve personally found some of my favorite pieces here—clothing, furniture, and artwork that add so much character to a home.

If you love discovering one-of-a-kind pieces while supporting local makers, Ivy House is definitely worth a visit. It’s the perfect place to find something special for your home or a thoughtful gift.

CURRENTLY READING

My current read is: Theo of Golden (2023). This is debut novel of Allen Levi, an attorney, judge, and singer/songwriter from middle Georgia. The novel follows the enigmatic yet kindly actions of Theo, an elderly Portuguese man who arrives in the southern town of Golden and discovers 92 pencil portraits displayed at a local coffee shop. He embarks on a mission to purchase these portraits and give them to their subjects, whom he considers to be the works’ “rightful owners,” and his “bestowals” create profound connections across the community before his true identity is revealed.

ASK A REALTOR Q&A:

IS IT POSSIBLE TO SELL YOUR HOME OFF MARKET?

Yes! An off-market sale means selling your home without listing it publicly on the MLS. Instead, your agent shares the property privately with their network of buyers and other agents. This can be a great option for homeowners who value privacy, are not in a hurry to sell, or prefer a simpler selling process.

However, listing on the MLS usually brings the most exposure and buyer competition, which can sometimes lead to a higher sales price. The right approach really depends on your goals and your home. If you’re curious about what your home might be worth or whether an off-market sale could work for you, I’m always happy to talk through the options!
MONTHLY HOME TIP!

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A WILL IN PLACE!

As homeowners, we spend a lot of time maintaining and protecting our homes—but it’s just as important to protect what happens to them in the future. One of the best ways to do that is by having a will and basic estate plan in place.

In my career, I’ve personally been involved in several real estate situations where a homeowner passed away without a will. Unfortunately, it can make things incredibly complicated for the loved ones left behind. Families are often left trying to navigate difficult legal processes while also grieving, and in some cases people can even be forced to leave homes they’ve lived in for years because there was no clear plan in place.

If you are a homeowner, making sure you have a will is one of the best ways to protect your asset and provide clarity for your family.

If you’ve been meaning to create or update a will, I highly recommend Amy Cofield, a local attorney and dear friend of mine who specializes in wills and estate planning. She does a wonderful job helping families through this process and making it much easier than many people expect.

A little planning now can make a big difference for the people you love.

what i’m currently stitching…

I’m working on a pattern I purchased a while back from The Needler in Lexington—I really miss that store! It’s a South Carolina–themed design, with all sorts of little SC-inspired details hidden in the letters. It’s been so much fun bringing it to life stitch by stitch, and it’s a great reminder of why I love our state so much. Can’t wait to see it finished!

First Time Home Buyers – One Sibling At A Time!

Some moments in real estate are truly special, and this past month was one of them. Back in 2022, I had the joy of helping one of my best friend’s sons purchase his first home in Chapin. Last August, I helped her daughter find her new construction home in Gilbert. And now, this past month, I had the honor of helping the last sibling purchase her first home in West Columbia.

Helping all three of her children achieve this milestone has been such a meaningful and full-circle experience. I’m incredibly grateful for my friend’s trust, and I couldn’t be prouder of all three of her amazing kids!
